Shows and Parades
How do I participate in parades and shows?
Your dancer may start doing shows and parades in the first year.
You can sign up for parades on the board outside dance class. Information regarding time and place to meet will also be on the board. (See School calendar.)
If the Academy is dancing at a location and you are affiliated in some way, please contact Eilis so your dancer can be involved with the show.
Eilis also sends out general e-mails regarding upcoming events and how to participate in them. Make sure she has your email address!!!
Eilis is always looking for new shows and new locations for shows. If you have any ideas - she would be interested. Dance shows for March start booking in January. Its never too early to ask!
A specific number of dancers are needed for each show. If your dancer is in a show s/he will be given a show sheet or you will receive an email listing what to wear, arrival time and date of show. If your dancer is unable to dance, it is your responsibility to find a replacement dancer with equivalent dance experience.
DANCE SHOW EXPECTATIONS
When you arrive at the show location, your dancers should have everything on except dress and shoes (this includes wigs and make-up). Warm-ups will begin immediately.
Be on time! The dancer-in-charge needs the time before the show to practice. Please check your directions so you are not late. If you are late, the dancer/parents-in-charge will assume you are not coming and replace your dancer.
You will be given a roster of subsyou MUST find a sub if you are unable to dance in a show. Please inform either the dance-in-charge or the Speaker who will be replacing you. Cell phone numbers are included for emergencies.
Eilis will be given the names of dancers who are late or do not come and do not find a replacement. Dance show participation will be affected.
v Parents should bring your dancer to the dancer/parents in charge, and then leave the practice area. Dads should never be in the changing area.
We are paid to perform at these shows, therefore parents must use discretion as far as watching the shows. Some clients are more than glad to have the parents stand or sit in the back of the area others do not want parents/friends in the room. Please do not block the view of the clients/customers by sitting in front of them.
If we are performing in a public place, it is the parents/friends job to get the audience into the show by clapping at the appropriate times (i.e. during soft shoe dances). Feel free at most bars etc. to cheer the dancers on.
Dancers are expected to listen to the dancer-in-charge and the Speaker or any other parent who is helping to organize the show. Dancers are expected to act appropriately (no running around, no yelling or loud voices). Please stay in the designated changing/warm-up area. Eilis will follow-up on behavior issues that are reported by the dancer-in-charge and the Speaker.
Show line-ups are made in advance in consultation with Eilis. The dancer-in-charge is not in a position to change what dances your dancer is in. If you have questions regarding this, please consult with Eilis before your next scheduled show.
Please leave the changing area neat and clean when you leave.
Please be sure that Eilis has your current e-mail address. It makes it easier to reach everyone with important information.
